Jaw Cyst Removal
Timely diagnosis and proper treatment of cysts to prevent serious complications in the jaw.
Effects of Jaw Cysts
The jawbones exhibit the highest frequency of cyst formation in the human body, with cysts being fluid-filled cavities.
Causes and Symptoms of Jaw Cysts
Cysts typically develop due to inflammation from neglected teeth and often lead to abscess formation. At the center of the cyst, dead epithelial cells create a cavity where fluid accumulates, expands, and destroys surrounding tissue. Common symptoms include fever, pain, difficulty opening the mouth, and swelling.
Treatment of Jaw Cysts
If a cyst is not treated by a dentist—either through root canal therapy or extraction of the problematic tooth—along with drainage and antibiotic therapy, it typically enlarges and causes more extensive swelling. With proper treatment, the cyst gradually resorbs, and the jawbone can recover.
Advanced Cases and Surgical Intervention
In cases where a cyst is left untreated, the accumulating fluid may exert pressure on tissues in search of an exit, potentially leading to skin perforation and extension toward the neck or pharynx. A retropharyngeal abscess may spread into the mediastinum and pose a serious threat to the patient’s life.
