Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Safe and targeted surgical wisdom tooth removal — with precision, experience, and proper care before and after the procedure.
The process begins with a thorough review of the patient’s medical and dental history, including screening for potential drug allergies. A panoramic X-ray is typically recommended to assess the condition of the dentition, the position and angle of the wisdom tooth, and any possible impingement on the roots of neighboring teeth.
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth in the permanent dentition—two in the upper and two in the lower jaw—that usually erupt after the age of 18.
Indications for Surgical Extraction
The decision for surgical extraction depends on factors such as:
- The degree of impaction under the gums or within the jawbone
- The size and shape of the tooth’s roots
- The angle of eruption
- The patient’s age and general health
- The proximity of the tooth roots to the mandibular nerves
Impacted Wisdom Tooth Extraction Procedure
Surgical extraction begins with precise imaging of the tooth, followed by local anesthesia. A small incision is made in the gums to expose the underlying bone. The bone covering the tooth is carefully removed, and in some cases, the tooth may be sectioned to allow for easier removal. The procedure ends with repositioning the gum tissue and placing sutures.
Postoperative Care and Possible Complications
After surgery, patients receive detailed instructions to care for the wound and minimize the risk of bleeding or infection. Avoiding smoking, physical strain, and using antiseptic mouthwash are key factors. In case of bleeding or other complications, contacting the oral surgeon is essential.
